Re-installation work for ACP Cladding for Canopy

Due to natural calamities, sometimes the Facade of the building may get affected. Here we are going to tell you about one of the works which was caused by to heavy storm.

Facade Maintenance

Re-installation of ACP Sheets

Facade Maintenance- ACP Canopy
Facade Maintenance- ACP Canopy

  • Cause of Work

1. Due to a Heavy Wind Load ( in May 2021 at Navi Mumbai, India), ACP sheets Fixed above the Canopy flew away and fell to the ground from 30m height approximately.

2. Some of the ACP sheets at the bottom fell on the terrace & some Panels lost their fixing with MS structure.

3. But (before that) ACP strips stuck over grooves between two ACP sheets got dislodged since the silicone used to stick them got removed.
4. Washing out of sealant has been happening for so many years. ACP strips were stuck with weather sealant, not with structure sealant.
5. There were no screws placed above the top of the ACP strips
6. The curved shape at the top of the Canopy was causing an accumulation of water over that Canopy itself.
7. Pigeons or crows standing over the Canopy removed some of the silicone placed at the edges of ACP strips.

8. ACP sheets got torn at the bends due to less strengthened Aluminium Framing. This happened with some of the ACP panels and not with all panels.
9. The MS structure is worn out. residual corrosion was accumulated in ACP sheets inside and it closed the drainage holes from where water inside could be drained.

Facade Maintenance- Damaged aluminium brackets
Facade Maintenance- Dislodged Aluminium Brackets from worn-out MS structure

10. Brackets made up of Alum square sections and Aluminium Angles were so small that when they got exposed to the weather they got disengaged from the MS structure.
11. A number of Aluminium brackets and screws were not adequate to hold the aluminum brackets in place with the MS structure.

It looked overall effect of all the above reasons behind ACP sheets flying out of their original location.

Scope Of Work:

Facade Maintenance- Dislodged ACP and aluminum members with fewer brackets

1. Scope of Work for 'Landscape wall Systems' was including Facade Maintenance of ACP canopy.
2. As instructed by the Client, new ACP sheets (FR grade) were to be installed.
3. Some of the ACP panels were to be made from panels dislodged from Canopy to save the cost of ACP sheets.
4. For Some of the panels only Aluminum Framing was to be fixed to the existing MS structure and  ACP sheets had good fixing with aluminum framing.
5. We had to remove old ACP strips where they were damaged and the silicone was washed out.
6. Where ACP strips were in good condition, we had to remove the old sealant and apply the fresh weather sealant.
7. To avoid removal of the ACP strip due to any reason we had to also place screws over the ACP strip.
8. After doing all of the above activities, we had to also make drainage holes at the bottom, if in case sealant got removed by crows/pigeons and if water accumulated.

Work Done by us:

ACP sheets replaced with new FR grade ACP sheets
Facade maintenance-after placing new ACP sheets
Facade Maintenance- After installing New ACP sheets

Challenges:

Being working professionals we follow Safety norms and wear Safety helmets, Safety Shoes, Safety belts, etc.
Facade maintenance-Completed work and safety
Facade Maintenance- Safety precaution-use of rope and Safety belt
  • For this site, while doing this work we had to purposely keep our work pending for one location.
  • Please look at the image above, where we could not install one of the ACP panels.
  • It was required to tie the rope to the existing MS structure to work as a fall arrestor since there was no arrangement or any BMU system considering safety.
  • MS structure was so heavy the normal screws were not getting inserted and drill bits were breaking frequently.
  • Since the framing for the ACP sheet did not have sufficient strength, a worker had to walk on the edge of the ACP sheet where he was sure that the Aluminium member was there for sure below his feet. This was to avoid damage to the other existing ACP sheets or to make a bow to the ACP sheets which did not have stiffeners in the middle.
  • Since the whole work is done in the rainy season, there were chances of sealant getting washed away.
  • When there was little rain, the switchboard, and electrical connections were supposed to be covered with plastic.
  • After placing the fresh silicone and moving away from the working place, pigeons were trying to eat fresh sealant for which we could not provide any solution. Use of crow-Patti was not allowed
